Josef Bernard works as a researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and at the same time teaches at the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Czech Republic. He is an expert on regional inequalities, rural development and various forms of social disadvantage. In his research, he focuses on the social situation of peripheral regions, the position of disadvantaged people on the labor market, the spatial differentiation of behavior and everyday life in rural communities. Within the framework of the SYRI project, he mainly focuses on the connections between social inequalities, place of residence and health. It also examines the influence of various life events on health.
